IOSF Otter Watching Days – COVID-19 procedures

The International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) is once again accepting bookings and running otter watching days on the Isle of Skye.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic IOSF has set the following precautions and adaptations to ensure the safety of guests and staff during otter watching days:

  • Transport – during otter watching days, guests must use their own mode of transport to get to sites. Guests will be met by an IOSF guide and then follow them to various sites in the area using their own vehicle.
  • Social distance – When in the field, it will be important for guests and guide to maintain the Scottish Government’s social distancing rules and adhere to the relevant lockdown restrictions at that time.
  • Binoculars – We would prefer that guests bring their own binoculars during otter watching trips. However, if guests do not have access to them, please specify when booking your trip. Binoculars borrowed by guests will be properly disinfected and sealed before use. Furthermore, following the day, they will be cleaned and returned to another sealed bag for future use.
  • Leaflets – IOSF offers guests information on otters and their conservation. These will be prepared in accordance with guidelines and given in sealed bags. Should the guest not wish to receive these, digital alternatives are available and can be sent by email.
  • Certificate – Should the guest be successful in watching otters with IOSF, an email certificate will be sent, rather than the paper copy that is normally issued.
  • Arrival – for those booking directly with IOSF, please arrive at the IOSF HQ at the time of the start of your tour. When you have arrived at the car park, please phone to notify IOSF of your arrival. If possible, we would ask that you do not arrive too early for the start of your tour. At this time, IOSF is not accepting visitors into the office.

IOSF will continue to monitor the precautions set by the Scottish and UK Government to ensure that both guests and guides are safe during the tours and maintain maximum enjoyment during the wonderful day exploring for otters.
